Uncertain Forecast?

Sometimes I think I’d like to be a weather forecaster. Who wouldn’t love a job where “a 50% chance of rain” is actually considered an acceptable conclusion? What other position offers complete job security for providing answers with the same credibility as a coin toss? Imagine an airline pilot under those same constraints… “Ladies and gentlemen, thanks for flying with us to Orlando. Currently we have a 50% chance of finding the airport...”

Some forecasters go way out on a limb with “daring projections” such as, “Tomorrow we may see some sun mixed with clouds,” or “temperatures may drop as we move towards evening.” You can’t blame them for these evasive prognostications -- their job description is to predict the future! Even with sophisticated software and equipment, the answers aren’t always clear.

Have you ever felt that way about your future – especially when facing a really tough decision? We look for answers from God, but we’re just not sure how to interpret the data. Even after praying, consulting Scripture, and seeking godly counsel for weeks, our forecast may still not be clear. How can we know what Gods wants?!

When seeking God’s will, it’s easy to feel like there can only be one correct answer. We may even have an uneasy sense that we’ll be turning our back on God if we choose the “wrong thing.” But there may not always be a “right or wrong” choice between good and godly options in life. What the Lord really desires from us is an open heart, and a willingness to serve and follow Him.

God may even present big decisions in our lives for no other reason than to renew our relationship with Him and those around us… to raise our spiritual awareness… to help us reconsider our place in service to Him, and to deepen our faith.

We would all love our future forecast to be clear-cut, but uncertainty keeps us seeking, trusting and praying. In the end, if we commit our futures to the Lord and make wise choices in line with His Word, we can fully trust Him with the results of our decisions.

Philippians 1:9-10 – “This is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best.”
