ANSWERS

  1. David was physically and emotionally exhausted. He cried out to the Lord from the ends of the earth, as it were, where humanly speaking he is at the end of his rope.

  3. In verses 6-7 David moves from the first person, I and me, to the third person, He and Him. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit David was looking beyond himself to his greater Son, the Messiah. The Lord Jesus Christ will be enthroned forever!

  4. Like Psalm 61, the theme of Psalm 62 is the security of the believer. Here the emphasis is on God as the believer’s only source of security.

  5. On one side of the balance you put vapor, on the other side you put things that people often trust in for security. These sources of security are so futile that the vapor weighs more! Truly everything we need is found in God alone.

DISCUSS/CONSIDER

  1. Review the illustrations used in Psalm 61 that ensure those whose trust is in the Lord they have great and complete security. Which speaks to you most personally?

  2. Psalm 62:9-10 is a great word picture describing how futile it is to put your hope or confidence in anything or anyone other than the Lord. Discuss the fives things listed that people often trust in for security: other people, positions of power, oppression, robbery, and riches. Which of these do you find yourself trusting in? What is our only true object of security?

CHALLENGE

  1. David was not only willing to wait for God, but he waited in silence. While you wait for God do you complain and tell God what He should do? Be more like David and wait in silence.
