Turning 50
Turning 50
Several days ago I crossed into an entirely new dimension in life…. or maybe I should say, old dimension? Yes, last week I passed the half century mark. Finished off my fifth decade. Or as I like to think of it, the 20th anniversary of my 30th birthday.
Honestly, turning 50 isn’t much different than any previous age... it just hurts more. It’s like the warranty on my muscles and joints just expired. I can’t figure out if it’s harder to bend down or get back up. Creaks and crackles accompany every move. My back hurts just sitting in this chair.
Those who are my age can relate. Those who are older are thinking, “Just wait…”
Recently someone asked me the question: if you could completely remove one source of pain in your life, what would it be? Think about it. What would your answer be? Maybe it's a debilitating condition that limits everything you do. Or maybe it’s a deeply rooted sadness from losing a loved one. Just imagine the unbelievable relief you’d feel if that pain was completely taken away… instantly… never to return! We’d give almost anything for a cure like that, if it were even possible.
God’s Word assures believers that it is possible when it talks about our future in Heaven. In fact, that concept is taken to a whole new level! Revelation 21:4-5 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
The older we get, the more amazing this verse sounds. Imagine a new existence where age has no relevance. Our 10,000th “birthday” will be just as joyful and pain-free as our first. No limitations, no sickness, no sad memories, no grief… ever! Break out the candles. Get ready for the celebration!
1 Corinthians 2:9 - “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”
