The Dad of all Dads
The Dad of all Dads
My wife and kids gave me a Father’s Day gift last year. I remember it well. It was wrapped in an awesome gift bag with bold letters that read: “The Dad of all Dads!”
Earlier in the day I visited a friend whose young daughter had made him a card. She said it took over an hour to find just the right stickers to put on the inside along with her handwritten words, “To the best dad ever!”
I scanned my Facebook feed later that evening and saw this repeated theme: pictures of various dads accompanied by captions reading something like, “The greatest dad in the world!”
These are wonderful sentiments, even though they can’t all really be true at the same time. (In fact, social media posts like that are kind of a put-down on all other dads who apparently aren’t deemed to be as good at the job!)
But on a day when so much well-deserved attention is given to dads around our country, I stopped to consider if as much time and thought went into thanking the One who's truly the Greatest Father Ever.
Did we offer anything special to our Heavenly Father on Father’s Day? Did we remember to thank the One who gave us new life, and welcomed us into His forever family, and has given us the hope of an eternal future with Him? How many “stickers of praise” did we put into His card? Our thanks and appreciation should never end for the true Dad of all Dads!
Galatians 4:4-7 - But when the right time came, God sent his Son… to buy freedom for us… so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are… God’s own child, and since you are his child, God has made you his heir.
