The Amazing Machine

Have you ever been on a factory tour? You know, one of those deals where you see how root beer is made, or something like that? I remember touring a facility that produced condiments. The guide led us through a sea of twirling machinery… robotic arms twisting to-and-fro, and rows of colorful bottles whizzing past at dazzlingly high-speeds. It was fascinating, but all I could think was, does the world really need this much mustard?

It reminds me of a TV show I used to watch with my son called, “How it’s Made.” Every episode explored the amazing machinery involved in producing even the most simple, everyday items.

The intricate equipment was incredible, and I always thought there should be a show on the factories themselves. I mean, where did all those awesome machines come from? And how long did it take to get them dialed in and working so perfectly?

We know one thing for sure — those high-tech machines and manufacturing facilities did not build themselves. You’ll never hear a tour guide say, “So all this cool stuff in front of you somehow appeared over time and eventually started working perfectly on its own.” In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Complicated machinery can only be built by an even more capable source. Manufacturing facilities require intelligent designers, fabricators, and engineers to mastermind the operation so things will work just right.

Yes, the creation of all complex gadgetry always traces back to the most fantastic machine on earth: mankind. So if creating a box of crayons or a roll of aluminum foil requires a sophisticated and finely-tuned production line, where does that leave us? Can anyone logically conclude that the infinitely more complex and intelligent human body was created and built by nothing?

Psalm 139:13-14 - “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”
